Bird Box Camera Fit Planner
Check the fit, power, connection and installation timing before you buy or open a nest box.
Built by Marcin · Founder & Editor · Updated
A bird box camera is ready to fit only when the empty box has enough clearance, the lens can focus at nest distance, and power and recording can run without later disturbance. This planner turns those checks into a short printable brief. It does not certify a product or replace species-specific wildlife guidance.
Your starting checklist
Complete the questions, then create your fit brief.
- Measure the empty box and camera body.
- Confirm close focus before installation.
- Test power, recording and restart recovery.
Three rules the calculator will not override
Bird welfare comes first
Fit, focus and test while the box is empty. If birds are nesting or showing interest, pause the project rather than improving the picture.
Dimensions are not compatibility
Clearance, focal distance, fixing points, ventilation, drainage and cable exits all matter. A camera fitting through the lid is not enough.
Solar is assistance
Shade and short winter days can reduce charging. Record how the system will be recharged without approaching an active nest.
How to use the result
Print the brief and take it to the exact product listing. Match every required part to the selected bundle, not the lowest displayed price. Bench-test the empty box, including recording after a router or power restart, before drilling the final mount.
For the installation sequence, read the nesting-season safety guide. For the wider decision, compare camera-only and complete bird box camera kits or test the route with the garden Wi-Fi method.
Method note: The planner applies conservative decision rules to information you enter. It stores nothing and makes no claim that a camera has been tested by HedgeLens. Current nest-box guidance should be checked with the British Trust for Ornithology and RSPB.
