Why HedgeLens exists

Choosing a wildlife camera should be simpler

A camera that looks good on paper can still be the wrong choice for a particular garden. HedgeLens focuses on the practical questions that make the difference: what you want to watch, where the camera will sit, how it will be powered, how it connects and how you want to view or store footage.

01

Practical first

Start with the job the camera needs to do, then narrow the options around placement, power, recording and connection.

02

Made for UK gardens

Brick walls, wet weather, awkward cable routes, patchy garden Wi-Fi and seasonal light all matter when choosing a setup.

03

Clear recommendations

Guides explain who each option suits, what to check before buying and where the important trade-offs are.

Behind HedgeLens

Who runs the site?

I’m Marcin, founder and editor of HedgeLens. I run the site, decide what we cover and review the recommendations before they are published.

The aim is straightforward: turn product specifications, retailer information and real setup questions into buying advice that is easier to use in a normal UK garden. As HedgeLens develops, original photography and hands-on field testing will be added when equipment is available.

How I compare products

I start with the job rather than the brand. A bird-box camera, feeder camera and general wildlife camera solve different problems, so they should not be judged by one universal checklist.

  • Where the camera will be mounted and what it needs to capture
  • Power options and how much maintenance they create
  • Night recording, trigger behaviour and useful viewing distance
  • Wi-Fi, app dependence and how footage is accessed
  • Local storage, cloud services and ongoing costs
  • Weather exposure, installation and wildlife-safe placement

Product facts are checked against identifiable sources. Hands-on observations are only described as such when the product has actually been used or measured.
